Navigating AI Adoption Challenges

AI adoption, like any change program fails when leaders aren’t acting from a fact based, pragmatic - even pessimistic - understanding of the amount of time, focus, and investment required to realize return.

Agentic engineering in an environment that isn’t already empowering employees to remove blockers to rapidly adapting and delivering incremental value to customers will not realize the return on investment just by speeding code production.

Organizations that introduce tools without providing time to learn, and without humility for the magnitude of changed behavior and processes required up, down, and across their organization will not realize the return on investment just by speeding code production.

As DORA’s ROI of AI Assisted Development says:

“The greatest returns on AI investment come not from the tools themselves but from a strategic focus on the underlying organizational system…

Without this foundation, AI creates localized pockets of productivity that are often lost in downstream chaos.”
